Recent Expenditure

Khalid / October 25th, 2008 / 2 Comments

I’m hoping to promote StudentsUncovered.com next month and so had to spend a little on some promotional items and new content! So far this is what I’ve spent…

  • 2,000 stickers with the web address on it £60.59
  • 1,000 lollipops as a freebie to clubbers £43
  • 1 banner stand £38.99
  • 2 x girls t-shirts for the promo staff £19.40
  • 2 x Gumtree ads £50
  • New content (reviews and articles) £100
  • 1,000 Namepros points for forums posting etc £11
  • Total: £322.98

It’ll cost me £50 – £75 per night in staff costs to promote the site so I’ve budgeted another £200 for this. Close to £500 to be spent and it is quite scary! I know this site will be successful in due course, I just have to take a risk to see a return.

Wish me luck!

Go Hard or Go Home

Khalid / October 19th, 2008 / 2 Comments

After a month of being out the gym due to time constraints and my ill health, I visited a boxing gym on Friday with my buddy Stephen. Sean, the boxing trainer, was giving me 1-on-1 tuition in return for a website design and boy did he make us work! Stephen had gone a couple of times before and that’s how I met Sean so we decided to go together so he couldn’t work us as hard!

The one hour training regime was purely cardio fitness to shock my body back into shape. Basic, repetative exercises we completed with one minute breaks. I was sick 4 times in the hour but kept coming back for more.

Why? Well you have to GO HARD OR GO HOME. I’m a fighter and loved every minute of it. There was no personal trainer asking me how my day was whilst pushing a few buttons on a tredmill. No fancy heart monitors or lcd tv’s showing music videos and definately no posers! This was hardcore training and it was amazing.

The training made me realise that I have to apply the same technique to my ventures in order to get them out there. I need to aggressively push the idea to interested parties, market it heavily to my userbase and build strong foundations to work on. I can’t always skrimp and save, I need to take bigger risks.

I posted a job ad for PR staff for StudentsUncovered.com on Vivastreet, a free alternative to Gumtree. I got one person who wasted my time asking stupid questions and I’m sure it was the site owners themselves to keep me interested. I then paid £25.00 to post on Gumtree and got about 30 serious replies in 24 hours. This is just an example of where I need to spend in order to achieve.

I’m going to promote StudentsUncovered.com again but this time better, more information soon!

Good luck with your persuits,

Khalid.

Having a Gastroscopy

Khalid / October 3rd, 2008 / 1 Comment

In a previous post I mentioned I was suffering from abdominal pains and awaiting a gastroscopy examination. On Wednesday I had that gastroscopy. Fortunately I am well but unfortunately it wasn’t pleasant!

I have a phobia of needles and so when I saw the size of the needle they were going to use to sedate me, I opted out and requested the throat spray – designed to numb your throat. The surgeon preffered this method also as the nursing staff can talk to your throughout and you fully comprehend, unlike being sedated where you can hear but are not fully aware and so tend to thrash about.

A guard was placed over my mouth to stop be biting down on the camera, I was given oxygen through my nasal passages and laid on my side. The camera went in and I began to panic. Breathing is difficult but you have to concentrate on it or you would end up thinking you were going to die. The nurse who was beside me kept reassuring me just to breath and I would be fine.

As the camera passed down my throat and towards my stomach my body continually attempted to reject it by trying to throw it back up, much like when you are being sick. As it couldn’t do this, my body began to shake and my mother – who was watching – thought I was taking a fit. In addition to this unpleasant site and uncomfortable feeling for me, I kept belching as air was pumped into my stomach so the surgeon could see!

After a few minutes a thin plastic tube was passed through the camera to my stomach to take a biopsy, which was painless. The second biopsy I felt as the surgeon pulled hard to remove the tubing – that too was uncomfortable. I was sooooo happy to have the camera removed as I could feel it inside me and by the time the surgeon was nearly finished my body has stopped fighting and I was able to breath normally without showing any side effects.

Thankfully, I am well and they will test for Cealic disease, an intolerance to gluten. I need to wait up to 14 days for the results and if it is negative then the surgeon believes I may simply be suffering from severe Irritable Bowel Syndrome for which there is no cure.

Below is an image of what a gastroscopy looks like on camera followed by a YouTube video of the procedure.
