New Job!

Khalid / November 28th, 2008 / 1 Comment

With all the changes around here I thought I better tell you about my new job! I’m working for a double glazing firm in charge of their website design/maintenance and marketing activities.  This is a real opportunity to learn more about SEO and refine my knowledge. I’ll be working from home half the week and have been given a brand new Ford Mondeo as a company car as the office is 45 minutes away.

I’m really happy in my new role, I enjoy the challenge and I am allowed time to work on my own projects. As a manager, in the new financial year I’ll be given a budget and my own activities to manage.

Good luck with your persuits,

Khalid.

Nice New Theme

Khalid / November 23rd, 2008 / No Comments

As you can see I’ve given KhalidsLife.com a nice new look with a lovely theme (don’t you think?). I’ve removed the ads from the sidebar as they weren’t converting and I just like having a site free of ads (excluding the 468 x 60 banners!)

I’ve also updated the about me page!

Good luck with your persuits,

Khalid.

Domain Leasing – Project 1

Khalid / November 20th, 2008 / 2 Comments

After some deliberation over what else I could try my hand at, I thought about domain leasing. In short, this is exactly what it says on the tin – you lease a domain.

If you have a nice generic name like loans.co.uk then you can easily lease it. But, what I am looking to do is find keywords that have anything from 10,000 – 100,000 searches per month, rank a domain name in Google’s top 10 for that keyword then lease it. I learned most of this from Scott and finally had a chance to talk a little about it at the Edinburgh meetup.

After our chat I set about querying domain leasing into detail and Scott gave me some useful advice and tips. The first project is http://www.ukelectricshowers.co.uk which I want to rank well for electric showers, electric shower and electric power shower.

I’ve already spent over $250 on backlinks through blog post reviews and article submissions. I’ll be keeping a track of the seo I do on this site to see how it fairs for future projects.

Good luck with your persuits,

Khalid.

Finally Got My Blackberry Bold

Khalid / November 17th, 2008 / 2 Comments

After waiting two months and calling O2 several times, I finally got my Blackberry Bold! Let me tell you, it was worth the wait! The Bold is known to rival the iPhone and the primary reason I wanted the Blackberry is because it has a keypad – I hate touch screen phones!

blackberry bold 9000

For the record I’ve had three mobiles with touch screen that have all broken. I hate the technology and much prefer a traditional keypad. The Bold has numerous features I won’t bore you with but I can tell you that it is amazing. A truly exceptional phone that looks the part and does the business.

Forget the iPhone, buy a Bold!

October 2008 Earnings

Khalid / November 9th, 2008 / 2 Comments

October’s earnings were down, partly due to a decrease in the PPC from Adsense and no private ads purchased. Here’s a breakdown of my earnings…

  • Google Adsense: $65.98
  • Text Link Ads: $27.53
  • Media Jump: $8.55
  • Total: 102.06 – Daily Average $3.29

I’m upset :(

Exhausted!

Khalid / November 6th, 2008 / No Comments

It has been another busy week in the life of me whilst I juggle my personal life, business and full time job. This week my plate was a little full as I prepare for another week of marketing for StudentsUncovered.com and meet employees, organise nights out etc.

Last week my girlfriend and I went to Glasgow for a weekend away, just to relax and take time out. We both needed it so I checked us in to the four star City Inn overlooking the riverside. Whilst we had a lovely weekend, unfortunately the staff were not so pleasant so a complaint letter to the chief executive was sent. The week prior I had stayed in the Hilton with my friend Stephen as he had a business meeting and the staff were far more helpful. I could have stayed in the Hilton on this occasion but wanted to try the City Inn for its contemporary image and location.

I had an interview on Monday for a 12 month secondment to manage intranet pages for the utility company I work for. Things went well so I’m hopeful :)

I was supposed to go to dinner with my mother and sister for my sister’s birthday. Unfortunately she fell ill and was taken into hospital. After a CAT scan it was found she had swelling on the brain and needed a Lumber Puncture to check for Meningitus. They bent two needles trying to get it in (ouch!) but thankfully the fluid was clear and they think she just has a bad viral infection. She is out now :)

At the same time her son had to go to hospital for a boil on his neck that had spread after a nurse removed part of the fluid with a syringe. It was all hands on deck as we tried to help everyone at once. Hospital food was anything but yummy!

My boiler is on the blink so I’ve taken today off to get it fixed and I also have a meeting with a company director who would like to use my SEO and website design services to market his company online. His office is an hour away from where I live so it’ll be a long day!

As this week comes to a close I’ve got another informal interview with an internet entrepreneur who wants to hire full time SEO employee. He is offering full training so I’m sure it would be a good opportunity to learn whilst doing something I enjoy!

In an effort to reduce my marketing costs I’ve purchased a Fujifilm S5800 and will be doing the photography in the clubs myself with two pr girls who are handing out freebies. The camera cost the same as hiring a photographer so I figured it would be better for me to have something at the end of it! The camera looks the business and the images are very professional!

Enough of me ranting, I hope you got all that! Good luck with your persuits,

Khalid.
