You don’t always need a keyword domain

Khalid / August 31st, 2009 / No Comments

Recently I’ve been concentrating on buying generic names, so if I want to sell pressure washers then I’ll try to buy pressurewasher.co.uk or the plural. This certainly helps from a branding perspective as well as giving you a boost in the SERPs when it comes to ranking for the keyword you are targetting.

However, you don’t always need to the keyword domain name to succeed. Famous examples, such as confused.com, utilise other easy-to-remember words to promote themselves, and just work that little bit harder at SEO to get it to rank.

Amy, my friend and business partner Rob’s girlfriend, has recently done this when reaching out to lovers of British Fashion with her fantastic blog Desirable.co.uk. Amy has been working hard to provide quality content covering a multiple areas within the fashion industry and although she isn’t number 1 for the term “British Fashion” (yet!), Amy’s site reaches in excess of 500 people per day and counting. And to add to the benefits of utilising a non-keyword domain, Amy is able to target a wide variety of topics without feeling her site is deviating from its description.

Having the keyword domain name certainly helps but can restrict your websites reach and content if you feel like it doesn’t fit in with the website’s name. So think outside the box and remember QUALITY CONTENT IS KING. Write informative, appealing articles, blog posts and such and in time people will notice.

Good luck with your pursuits,

Yes Get Me 1st Ltd ARE CON ARTISTS

Khalid / August 12th, 2009 / 2 Comments

I rarely post about crappy services but this one is a joke! At my work I missed a call from “Google” and the caller advised the receptionist he would telephone back. I received a callback request the next day from Robert Fraser on +44(0)1698294848.

I telephoned them and got “Hello”…

Khalid: “Hello is this Robert Fraser”
Robert: “Yes it is”
Khalid: “Rober I’m Khalid from … I believe you are calling from Google”
Robert: “Yes, we’re offering business a listing on Google’s from page within 24 hours”
Khalid: “Can you guarantee it
Robert: “Yes, you have my telephone number”
Khalid: “What business are you calling from?”
Robert: “Get me first limited”
Khalid: “And what’s your url”
Robert: “Just type in “Get Me First” into Google”

(I do and I get this page)

Khalid: “I can’t believe you can do this unless it is a sponsored listing”

Robert: “Well we’ve done it before”
Khalid: “And how do you do it”
Robert: “We pay Google to put your page there
Khalid: “We’re working with a leading SEO company who rank first for … and they couldn’t do it”
Robert: “Well if you don’t want it then that’s fine”
Khalid: “No no, I’m very interested, can you give me a sample of your work?”
Robert: “Yes type in “Glasgow Jewellary” into Google”
Khalid: “And what site am I looking for?”
Robert: “Erm I can’t remember
Khalid: “What do you mean you can’t remember”
Robert: “Well it was a long time ago”
Khalid: “Well give me another example, I can’t believe you don’t remember your clients url”
Robert: “Well I’ve only just started working for the company and I’ve only done it once personally”
Khalid: “And you can’t remember the url”
Robert: “No sorry it was a long time ago”
Khalid: “What a fucking joke, you seriously want me to believe you can do white hate seo and get me a natural position within the serps for any term within 24 hours”
Robert: “Well yes, I mean if you don’t believe me then that’s fine”
Khalid: “What a fucking joke”

And I put the phone down.

The problem is this fake company may get one or two clients and take thousands from them so I urge you to ReTweet this and get the message out there.

UPDATE: Fraser phoned me back to say he was a student, working for a telesales guy called Mark on +44(0)77948761409 and he didn’t know it was a scam. He asked me to remove his details which I refused as there would be no evidence of his activities, even if he was “innocent”.

Please please please help me to make everyone aware this company are scam artists preying on businesses around the UK.

July 2009 Earnings

Khalid / August 12th, 2009 / No Comments

July was another quiet month as I concentrate on my business strategy for 2009. Similar to June, not a lot in earnings…

  • $54.87 taken in Adsense which takes my daily average to $1.77

To be honest, although I’ve been trying to achieve my $100 a day goal for a while now, I am happy with my progression as I continue to learn and put theory into practice.

Keep checking back, one day I’ll get there :)

First Proper Affiliate Site

Khalid / August 11th, 2009 / 2 Comments

pressure-washer-screenshotRecently I managed to get my hands on PressureWasher.co.uk, a nice generic name with traffic. Since then I’ve been working hard to create a comparison website with plenty of unique content, complete with Amazon affiliate links and even a unique video!

The results so far have been fantastic, with my site hitting page one for the term “pressure washer” in Google.co.uk and already 7 sales!

The seven sales only accounts for one pressure washer and that’s what I love about Amazon – the number of goods they sell. Visitors to my site have clicked through the links, either bought a pressure washer or not, and continued to shop!

I hope to achieve a conversion rate of 2% on pressure washers alone, and doing the maths that could result in a nice little income generating site which I will look to retain for a long term passive income.

Let me know your opinions as I am keen to ensure my affiliate site is kept in good working order :)

Business Strategy 2009 – 2010 Update

Khalid / August 3rd, 2009 / No Comments

My last post detailed the first year of my new business strategy so I thought it was about time for an update.

In it, my goals were as follows;

  • All valuable domains have a fully functioning website – Done :)
  • 1st Page ranking for 50% of live websites -Nearly Done :)
  • Monetized ranked websites – Done :)
  • Sell assets that cannot be built on – Working on

Over the past two weeks I’ve worked hard to ensure my tattoo design and pressure washers websites were loaded with content, so this takes care of the first point. I’m waiting on getting these sites re-indexed to begin achieving a ranking in the search engines, taking care of point two.

Thirdly, these websites, along with others in my portfolio, have all been monetized so point three has bee completed and I am in the process of finding buyers for assets that do not fit with my long term goals.

Good luck with your pursuits,

Khalid.
