Working hard on my biggest project

Khalid / November 28th, 2009 / 1 Comment

It has been a while since I’ve posted but if there’s nothing exciting to say then I don’t want to bore you with mindless updates of nothing. Instead, I’ve been working on my biggest project, Trout.co.uk, in the hope of building a strong, health, profitable site. The site has been ranking for terms like “trout fishing” and “trout”, but I really want it to rank for “fly fishing” as this is where a lot of traffic lies I believe.

Traffic jumped from 250 uniques in the first month to 1250 uniques in the second, all with NO MARKETING! This month I’m hopefully going to hit the latter end of 1750 unique visitors so I’m happy with its progress, although I can’t wait to begin hitting the big numbers.

I’ve been selling bits and bobs from my portfolio and flipping a few names to bankroll the operation and keep my business account topped up although I need to form a strategy to begin attracting advertisers.

The next six months will really make or break the site as the new trout fishing season will begin and my traffic should either spike or drop, depending if people are inside online or out on the water. Either way, hopefully I’ll get my site out there, I might just begin tattooing fish and stocking rivers so when people catch one they’ll see my url!

Good luck with your persuits,

Khalid.

October 2009 Earnings

Khalid / November 13th, 2009 / 2 Comments

October was a good month for generating revenue to plough into my trout fishing website. Rob and I also acquired Nutritionist.co.uk which we hope to resell in due course or develop. Here’s a breakdown of my earnings…

  • Sale of joint venture website: £800 / 2 = £400
  • Sale of dental insurance website: £1,000
  • Lead generation: £80.00
  • Google Adsense: £27.33

Total: £1507.33 = $2514.17

Daily earnings: $81.10

Not a bad month at all and I’m happy with the revenue being generated.

Good luck with your pursuits,

Khalid.

Never Stop Asking or Listening

Khalid / November 5th, 2009 / No Comments

As I sit here with my lunch, it dawned on me that I hadn’t updated my blog for a while and so I logged in, hit “Add New” and stopped. What should I write about? I’m currently playing a waiting game where by my projects are progressing at an acceptable rate but not quite at the stage where they need full time commitment so there’s not much I can tell you about them since my last update.

If you’ve followed this blog for a while you’ll know that, even after all my experiences, I’m not in a position – and never will be – to say I know it all. I often seek advice from people that have been, or are in, similar situations. And I listen; I listen to what they did and how they did it. Too much information isn’t bad for you, but it is your responsibility to pick out what you need to know and separate the sound advice from the crap. Along the way, there might be an opportunity or two for you to profit and/or learn.

Don’t be shy, but don’t be overconfident too as that can come across as cocky. I’ve managed to secure free haircuts for a year in return for creating and managing the website of my hairdresser in Edinburgh. It was her who made the offer, and she wasn’t shy to ask but she knew she could reciprocate.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, after being through the mill a bit I’m still surprising myself.

Good luck with your pursuits,

Khalid.
