I guess it depends on the domain. I have a couple domains pulling a couple hundred/month from parking. I tried to develop one of them, and earnings dropped tremendously. Back to parking it went! On the other hand, some sites that I had weren't getting traffic... developed some are now pulling in 600uniques/day. Not bad, and are making decent money. Problem is developing a site people want to bookmark. I tried the whole automated blog thing for a week or two, and I made 0 earnings. Problem is there is no money with parking neither, so I need to just see what will be done. Goodluck! Great post.
